Robotic CI Surgery Project
Request for help with research on cochlear implant surgery
Are you a candidate for cochlear implant (CI) surgery, or have you had one placed? Have you refused one? At Imperial College London, in partnership with the NHS, we are developing a device for CI surgery. This device could help people who are currently candidates for cochlear implant surgery. It can also help people who typically are not yet suitable as perceived risks from current surgical methods (by the human hand) would outweigh potential benefits for them. Our proposed technology allows for preserving natural hearing by overcoming the limitations of the human hand with an innovative robotic platform to insert the CI.
We need patients to feedback on the design of the device and our research plans. We want to make patients aware of the device benefits and understand what matters to patients about CI surgery.
We are inviting patients to join a Patient Advisory Group with the research team. We are looking for:
- People with a cochlear implant
- People who have refused CI surgery
- People who would want CI surgery
We plan to meet several times over approximately two years. Our first meeting will be on Monday 9 February from 4:00 – 5:30pm, in person and online. People will be paid a small amount for their time. To reserve a spot or for any questions, contact Erin on e.walker1@imperial.ac.uk
